Measuring your room
Clearroom captures your room itself — no third-party measurement software. The app plays a sweep through each speaker and listens with your measurement microphone, walking you through every step on screen. A full capture takes about five minutes.
You measure three positions: your exact listening spot, 10 cm to its left, and 10 cm to its right. This tight cluster around the sweet spot is what lets the engine tell correctable room problems apart from ones that shift with every head movement — a single-point measurement cannot make that distinction, and corrections built from one point only hold at that exact spot. The same cluster is also what powers the confidence score you see after qualification.
Your microphone
Any USB measurement microphone with a calibration file works. Point the mic straight up(90°, at ear height) and keep that orientation for every sweep — the app reminds you. The calibration file is required, not optional: without it your mic's own coloration gets “corrected” into your speakers.
We test our calibration-file reader against real files from the microphones we recommend — these are verified to work: miniDSP UMIK-1 and UMIK-2(use the 90° file from miniDSP's serial-number lookup), Sonarworks SoundID Reference measurement mic, and Behringer ECM8000 with a third-party calibration. Standard REW .cal / .txtfiles from other mics work too, including files saved with European decimal commas. If your file won't load, send it to us — we'll make it work.
Headphone corrections
Headphone profiles are built from published laboratory measurements, not your own capture. Entries marked ★come from oratory1990's measurements on the GRAS 43AG — the same Harman reference rig the research targets were developed on, and the most trustworthy public source there is. Unmarked entries come from other community sources (AutoEq) and are good, not gold-standard. We never invent a “generic” correction: if your headphone isn't in the catalog, request it and we'll add a measured entry.
For REW power users
The engine can also process REW .mdatsessions through the CLI and API (this path is not part of the app). Two rules: export with 3 sweeps per speaker at the cluster positions above, and leave Analysis → “Use measurement as timing reference” unchecked — that option re-aligns every impulse to the same sample and erases the inter-position timing the qualification checks rely on.
