A Mac you lost.
Getting its seat back, without giving anyone a way to take yours.
A licence activates on two Macs. If one of them is stolen, sold with the drive wiped, or simply dead, its seat is still held — the machine cannot tell us it is gone. Reporting it lost is how you take that seat back.
The 30-day clock
You file the report from your account, on the seat you have lost. From that moment the seat frees itself 30 days later, and your account shows the exact date.
If that Mac signs in to Clearroom again before the 30 days are up, the report cancels itself and the seat stays where it is — nothing is lost, and the report is given back to your allowance. A report that has already matured is history: it stays on the record and it stays counted.
Reports are budgeted per licence per year, and your account shows how many you have used. The budget exists because freeing a seat is the one self-serve action that takes something away from a machine, so it cannot be free to repeat.
Only a signed-in check-in cancels a report
Clearroom talks to us in two different ways, and only one of them proves who is talking. The app checking in from an activated Mac carries that machine's own credential. Activating offline — the code you read out and type back in — carries no credential at all, by design: it is the path for a studio with no internet, and anyone holding the machine can walk it.
So an offline activation never cancels a lost report. If it did, whoever has your stolen Mac could cancel your report from it, over and over, and the report would protect nobody.
The cost lands on honest customers, which is why it is written here rather than in the small print: a Mac that only ever activates offline cannot undo a report by itself, so if you file one by mistake on such a machine, only support can undo it. Email support@clearroom.studio and we will cancel it and give the report back.
When the lost Mac turns up
If it comes back before the 30 days, do nothing — open Clearroom on it and the report cancels itself. If it comes back after the seat has already been freed and re-used, the Mac will ask to be activated again; free a seat you are not using, or write to us.
